Just like in every language, the use of idioms is very important in Chinese. In my teaching, I like to spend time explaining how these idioms describe simple but important concepts that shape our understanding of the world. The illustrations below were done by a student who is just beginning his Chinese learning journey. He is able to capture these ideas with very basic sketches. He also included the characters, which demonstrates that even a new student can master the art of writing quickly with diligent study.

It can refer to a person who is lucky enough to escape punishment by law.
